The 9-to-5 world

Some good news, at last: Science Girl has a new gig as an intern, doing prescicely the sort of research she’s interested in, AND she’s been encouraged to apply for a full-time paying spot in the same lab. Huzzah!

Of course, this good news is tempered with some less good news, for me, anyway: it’s a 9AM – 5PM job. My current shift is 3:30PM – 12:00AM. Essentially, this means that we’ll only see each other on weekends. Not the end of the world; we’ve worked around this sort of thing before. All the same, I will miss hanging out with her before work. It can’t be helped, though, and it’s a really great opportunity for her. So.

I know something’s wrong when I walk into a record store and immediately feel like a dinosaur. I went in looking for the new Reigning Sound CD, but I guess they were out. I ended up getting Neil Young’s newest. Damn near everything else I looked at just seemed repulsive. It didn’t help that they were playing some hideous remix abortion of 60’s rock & soul with various “beats” and “glitches” laid over the top like a thin film of vomit on Wedgewood china. Truly fucking awful, it was.

I’m just not in a good frame of mind. Most of my life is pretty swell. I live in a great house with a wonderful, loving woman and some mostly good pets. There’s just this one area that’s really harshing my mellow, if you know what I mean. And, y’know, this too shall pass.

It’s just passing like a kidney stone.

I have written a review of the new Big Star album. (Yes, I am still capable of writing. Well, as much as I ever was.) Please go read it.

And sorry for the disappearing act here. I've got a lot of stuff going on and not a lot to say. Or, make that not a lot I can say. This will eventually pass (please, let it pass!) and I'll be back wasting your time and mine with the worthless drivel I specialize in. In the meantime, go have a snack or something.

Looking for work, sending out many resumes, not writing on blog. Spending lovely weekend on Orcas Island, yes, but mostly the other things. Oh, and getting DSL. Yay!
