Because I have nothing else for you tonight, here is a list of my favorite albums of 2004. Perhaps it will aid you in buying gifties for your loved ones. In no particular order:
Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - In which Mr. Cave shows off his sense of humor and some really great tunes;
Good News for People Who Love Bad News by Modest Mouse - Isaac Brock’s attempt to feel good in a shitty world;
Blue Cathedral by Comets On Fire - Acid prog punk for the 21st century;
Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes by TV on the Radio - It sounds like nothing else going on right now. This is good;
OnoffON by Mission of Burma – It’s like they never left!;
Too Much Guitar by Reigning Sound – Loud, angry, possibly drunken garage rock. What else could you ask for?
Honorable mentions go to: Fuckin’ A by The Thermals; Howling – It Grows and Grows by The Catheters; 50 Foot Wave by 50 Foot Wave; and probably a couple of others I’m not thinking of right now.
If you would care to leave a list of your faves in the comments, I think that would be peachy.
Features - Exhibit A
Brian Wilson - Smile
Young Heart Attack - Mouthful of Love
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
The Comas - Conductor

Abattoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus has not left my cd player in weeks. I think it approaches masterpiece status.
