I’m a bit woozy tonight, since I didn’t sleep terribly well last night. Just never really went fully unconscious, and I’m feelin’ it today. Getting old is fun, kids. You’ve got a lot to look forward to. And so it is that I come to you this evening, bleary of eye and blunt of brain, with nary a damn thing to say.
However, I do have a link, and a small story to go with it. Many years ago, I used to have a 45 of Holly Beth Vincent and Joey Ramone singing “I Got You Babe”. Yep, that “I Got You Babe”. I stupidly loaned it to someone & never saw it again, of course. The song is now available on CD, as one of the bonus cuts on Holly & The Italians. Which is not to be confused with The Right to be Italian by Holly & The Italians, by the way. Same Holly, in both cases, but very different albums. I love love love The Right to be Italian, as it is a nearly perfect album of early 80s guitar pop. Holly & The Italians was very much weaker – although to be fair, it’s been 20-some years since I last heard it, so my recollection may be a little skewed…
Hmm, I seem to have strayed a little bit. My point is that the single was just amazing, and I miss it very much. Holly & Joey were born to sing together. I remember being surprised when I first saw the single in the store, but that initial astonishment gave way to one of those blindingly obvious “of course!” moments one often sees in films about scientists. It had to happen. And, indeed, it did. Here’s an mp3 to prove it.
Bonus link for record geeks: When Wounded Bird released the CD version of The Right to be Italian, they re-sequenced it and omitted the original liner notes. Here they are, along with the original sequence of the album. You’re welcome.
